77% of the way there!

To all of our Kickstarter supporters, it is so cool to see people excited about something I wrote and supporting it. With a little bit more of a push over the next 15 days, we will easily reach that 100% goal, guaranteeing that you will get that book into your hands.

Have you had a chance to check out the Kickstarter? Check out the link below!

Now let's get into today's blog post.

Let's talk about Erathil's Races today! + Sneakpeak

Quick note: The Kickstarter will also be updated with these.

So how many races are actually in the book? I realize that only putting three on the Kickstarter probably didn't help me.

So how many are actually in The Atlas of Rolcaria?

The Atlas of Rolcaria includes 10 completely new races, not counting subspecies. Most have 2, but one has 4.

Although the art style is slightly variant, I plan to get it all on the same level as the Gemkin, Dragonfolk, and Snakeborn. Or upgrade it all at some point. Though I love the Magma Dwarf piece in the bottom right corner there. Actually an inspired image from a playtest campaign where a "Legendary" sword was being made. Spoilers? Who knows.

So, let's talk about one of them. I will use short snippets from the book and my own additional writing, of course.

Rolcarian Dragonfolk (The first one)

The Rolcarian Dragonfolk were created by the dragon gods themselves to fight the Dark Trinity. They arrived as Draconic warriors who burned across the battlefields, laying waste to the Leviathan spawn and the races that sided with them. Once the battles had finished and the Leviathans that once ruled were defeated, dragonfolk spread out across Rolcaria, bringing the good word that the dark ones had been defeated and all was well.

Dragonfolk Names

Rolcarian dragonfolk carry names given at birth which represent their ancestors or the realms from which they originate. However, some ancient traditions still live amongst the dragonfolk, with names that represent the clans in which they once arrived during times of olde. Young dragonfolk are called nestlings before they reach maturity, and nicknames are common amongst close friends or siblings as a reminder of old habits or terms of attachment. The naming of a dragonfolk is a sacred and symbolic act meant to reflect their identity, lineage, and role in society.

You have your adult names, nestling names and clan names typically when you choose to play as a Dragonfolk.

Do you know how Dragonborn in the base player handbook just gives you a bunch of colours to choose from when picking your ancestry for your new character? Well I personally think choosing from named dragon species is much cooler and made it feel more connected to my world.

Dragon Bloodline: Your dragon bloodline determines what breath weapon & resistances your dragonfolk have.

(The following is not a finalized list, just an example, also spoilers for dragons in the book?)

Ranged Weapon Attack: range 80/320 ft., one target. Hit: 5 (2d6) Force Damage.

Yeah, I know Force is a pretty strong breath weapon type, but honestly, from all the playtests and how often people roll double 1's for damage, AND it's a single target one instead of an AOE like the rest? Played out pretty well, and I think it's a fun addition.

Now that's enough of a spoiler of the base race. Let's talk subspecies!

The Dragonfolk have the most by far, a total of 4. What are they? Here's a quick summary.

Blessed Dragonfolk - Have stayed faithful to the Dragon Gods of old. Continuing to worship the Dragon Gods daily is part of their faith, and, as such, they act on potential prophecies and words from the gods.

  • Increased Charisma & +1 to your Persuasion

  • Prof in religion, with the ability to reroll 1 critical failure per long rest.

  • Breath type can be changed to radiant at dawn, or back to your base breath weapon

Shadow Dragonfolk - A Shadow Dragonfolk is born out of immense grief, and even then, they are rare. A shadowy aura will often take these folk over for a short time, turning their scales to a midnight black and sending them through waves of anguish which are only cured by sharing the emotion with others. Usually, this sharing comes in the form of destruction, like burning small towns to the ground or going on a rampage through the city and only calming down once the energy transmutes altogether.

  • Increased Wisdom & +1 to your indimidation

  • Able to teleport to a shadow 50ft away once per day. Recharges at midnight.

  • Breath weapon can be swapped to Necrotic at the dawn of each day, may choose to keep your normal type for the day instead.

Sky Dragonfolk - Dragonfolk are rarely born with wings, and when they are, this is considered a blessing from the gods themselves. Being blessed with the ability to fly is looked upon with jealousy by many of the other flightless dragonfolk or Draconic races dwelling among Rolcaria. Their wings also grant them increased favour with full dragons, as some see this as a mark of their original heritage.

  • Increased Dexterity

  • Natural weapons

  • Flying speed (I know people don't like early flying speeds, but having this in Rolcaria is very handy)

  • Can gain proficiency in perception or athletics

  • Can dive bomb (will be apart of the playtest material.)

Brutetail Dragonfolk - Brutetail Dragonfolk have unique tails which end with large spikey appendages. They use their tails for offensive and defensive purposes. They can easily use these tails with proper training to smash through shields and small trees.

  • Constitution increased +1 to your intimidation

  • You count as one size larger when determining your carrying capacity and the amount of weight you can push. You also gain Proficiency in Strength saving throws.

  • You can choose to either have a spiked (Piercing damage) or clubbed tail (Bludgeoning damage) which you can use as a weapon. Depending on your chosen tail, the tail deals 1D8 + your Strength modifier’s Bludgeoning or Piercing damage. You may also use your tail as an Attack action during your turn and apply the same statistics. Once per short rest, you may use your tail as a reaction.

Lot's of interesting choices, my biggest worry was just turning the Subspecies into something that felt more like an asthetic vs something that builds on the core race.

That's enough for spoilers today!
